Renault announces automatic diesel Kangoo model

Hitting Australia in 2017, the new model brings two-pedal driving to the diesel range

Renault Australia is poised to expand its light commercial vehicle division with an automated transmission variant of the Kangoo Diesel to arrive before the end of the year.

To use a similar 6-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission as seen in the 1.2-litre petrol variant which launched locally in February, the new two-pedal turbo-diesel Kangoo’s automatic dual dry clutch transmission features a 290 millisecond shift time, a ‘P-R-N-D’ type gearshift control with an ‘up/down’ ‘manual’ shift mode, creep control for crawling traffic and Hill Start Assist for inclines.

Paired with the EDC in the Kangoo Diesel will be a 1.5-litre engine offering 81kW and 240Nm of torque.

For the fuel conscious, the powertrain features an ECO Mode to cut fuel consumption by 10 per cent when activated via a switch beside the handbrake. The mode alters the management of the gearbox electronic control unit to enable gear shifts at lower rpm.

“We’ve been looking to add an auto diesel powertrain to the Kangoo range for a while now, and I’m pleased to say that the specification we want has now gone into production, and we should receive the first vehicles prior to Christmas,” Renault Australia LCV senior model line manager Lyndon Healey says.

Fitting in with the rest of the Kangoo range, the new diesel EDC will ship with a three-year, 200,000km warranty and three-year roadside assistance offer. Service intervals are annual or every 30,000km.

Renault says the full list of features and specifications will be provided later in the year.
