A serious defect that may increase the risk of a vehicle fire has resulted in a recall issue for Prostar prime movers.
Owners of International Truck’s Prostar prime movers from years 2016-2018 are being urged to hang tight and wait for contact from their local IVECO dealership for an inspection following a recall notice.
A recall was issued on the 26th of June by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts after the North American truck maker identified a manufacturing defect that may mean the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system dan blower does not meet specifications.
All variants of the Prostar truck from years 2016 – 2018 are affected.
The statement reads: ” The electrical wiring of the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system fan blower may not meet specifications. This could cause overheating and may melt the plastic material of the fuse leading to a vehicle fire.”
The department warns that in the worst-case scenario, this type of defect could cause a fire within the vehicle which greatly increases the risk of an accident, serious injury or even death, to not only drivers but bystanders and pedestrians as well.
Being such a serious defect, the department has said that when parts are available owners of affected models will be contacted to attend an IVEO workshop or a dealer for an inspection and necessary work carried out, free of charge.
