Owners warned that heavy road impact on front tyres may cause steering vibration
September 7, 2011
Recall notices are out for certain wide- and narrow-cab Toyota Dyna and Hino 300 Series and Dutro models.
The problem is the possibility of steering wheel vibration if the front tyre or tyres are subjected to a heavy impact, such as running over a large pot hole or bump in the road at high speed.
The degree of vibration may be inflenced by vehicle loading, tyre condition and wheel alignment.
In the worst case, vehicle controllability may be affected, though the vibration diminishes as the vehicle’s speed reduces.
Hino owners are to be contacted by mail and have been advised to contact their authorised Hino dealer for installation of a steering damper.
Toyota technicians will install a steering damper and, on some models a tie rod, to the affected vehicles. This will be performed at no cost to vehicle owners, who should be contacted by mail about the issue.
The Dynas involved were in production between 2000 and 2004.
