Small recall on largest model because of fuel tanks and brake air hoses
June 28, 2013
Two dozen Mitsubishi Fuso Heavy FP54 trucks have been recalled by supplier Mercedes Benz Australia/Pacific.
Notices have been issued by Product Safety Recalls Australia, part of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
One notice says 11 Euro 5 Heavy trucks built between September 14, 2011 and September 7, 2012 need to have their fuel tanks replaced.
“The fuel tank securing straps may have been over-tightened during production,” the notice says.
“This may result in damage to the fuel tanks.
“If the defect occurs, this may cause fuel leakage resulting in a hazard to other road users, and in the worst case scenario cause a fire.”
A separate recall says 12 Heavy FP54 trucks built between July 12, 2011 and February 8, 2013 need to have their front brake air hoses replaced.
“The front brake air hoses are too long,” the notice says.
“This may allow the hoses to make contact with other components, damaging the hoses.
“If the defect occurs this may result in reduced braking efficiency. This may pose a hazard to the driver and other road users.”
A letter will be sent to affected owners and repairs carried out free of charge. The notices say local dealers should be contacted for further information.
