The Roads Australia president will finish his three-year term at this Friday’s AGM
Following his announcement that he wouldn’t seek a further term in the role in September, Roads Australia (RA) president Michael Bushby is set to step down as president at this Friday’s RA AGM.
Following a three-year term at the helm of RA, Bushby will relinquish the role.
He says he’s enormously grateful for the support of RA’s members over the past three years.
“The opportunity to meet and work with so many committed and talented people from across RA’s membership is one I greatly value,” Bushby says in a letter to RA members.
Bushby says he’s proud to have led the board throughout a period that has witnessed:
- Resilience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling RA’s members to remain connected to industry and each other
- Strong growth in RA’s membership, as well as its signature Fellowship and Emerging Leaders programs
- A broader focus in RA’s events programs that is drawing in new speakers and subjects
- Expanded efforts to enhance diversity and inclusion within the organisation and across the industry, both through the content of RA events and in its policy activities
- An evolution of RA’s policy engagement to embrace contemporary issues such as placemaking, digital engineering and asset management and a focus on freight
- Elevating RA’s profile through key publications and activities such as its Procurement Reform Report, the Journey to Net-Zero and the success of its inaugural industry visit to New Zealand.
Bushby says RA’s focus on diversity and inclusion is essential if it is to secure a sustainable talent pool from which to draw the sector’s future leaders.
The outgoing R president also paid his respects to his successor.
“I could not be more pleased that my successor as president will be Aneetha de Silva,” Bushby says.
“She became RA’s first female vice president two years ago and will again make history as our first female president.
“Although it will be in a different capacity moving forward, I nonetheless look forward to remaining actively engaged in RA’s journey and connected with our members. You are ultimately RA’s greatest strength and I have no doubt your commitment, ingenuity and energy will enable RA to continue delivering positive outcomes for our industry and for the community. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.”
