The Queensland Government has released its proposed planning layout for the future upgrade of the Bli Bli bridge on Maroochydore Noosa Road, outlining a new structure designed to meet long-term traffic and community needs.
The proposed bridge would sit north of the existing structure and include two traffic lanes, road shoulders and new active transport links.
The layout also provides the option to expand to four lanes if future traffic volumes require it.
Active transport central to the redesign
TMR says the new plan includes a wider path for pedestrians, bike riders and mobility device users on the southern side of the bridge.
These paths would connect to Bli Bli village and Muller Park, improving access for local residents and recreational users.
The upgrade would support communities on both sides of the river while improving safety for all bridge users.
Existing bridge to remain fully operational for now
The current bridge is expected to stay in service for the foreseeable future.
It will continue to undergo regular inspections and maintenance under TMR’s structures program to ensure safe operation for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and waterway users.
No timelines have been set for detailed design or construction of the new bridge.
Future stages will depend on project priorities and available funding.
Community invited to help shape next steps
Feedback is now open on the planning option.
TMR says community input will help inform later stages of planning and ensure the final design supports local travel, access and environmental needs.
The department will update the community as the project progresses and as funding reviews continue.
