The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads has changed the speed in a safety bid
A speed limit review along the Gold Coast Highway has identified a two-kilometre section that has been reduced this month.
The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says the limit has reduced from 70km/h to 60km/h from about 150m north of Tallebudgera Drive to Tenth Avenue in Palm Beach.
TMR acting South Coast regional director Andrew Wheeler says the review was carried out along eight sections of the Gold Coast Highway, from Tallebudgera Creek to the NSW border, as part of TMR’s 2021/2022 Speed Limit Review program.
“Speed limit reviews are carried out in response to community concerns,” Wheeler says.
“We’ve listened to the community, and the Speed Management Committee has recommended the change to provide a more consistent speed through Palm Beach.

“Speeds along the remaining sections will remain as they currently are.”
Wheeler says the Speed Management Committee, which includes representatives from the Queensland Police Service, Gold Coast City Council and TMR, looked at a range of factors when reviewing speed limits.
“When making a decision on changing speed limits, the committee looks at how the road functions, at the roadside environment, construction standards, prevailing traffic speeds and crash history,” he says.
“Speeding is one of the fatal five causes of road crashes and I urge all drivers to observe the new limit and always drive to conditions.”
