Queensland apprentices leadership course deadline looms

Ambassador program aims to foster leadership in third- and fourth-year apprentices at a time of alarm in many quarters that the traditional training path is being undermined

September 21, 2012

With concern in the wider transport industry that the automotive apprenticeship system might be losing its way, a free program to give it impetus in Queensland is nearing the deadline for nominations.

The cut-off for gaining positions in the Queensland Automotive Apprenticeship Ambassador Program, co-ordinated by Automotive Skills Queensland (ASQ), is 10 days away.

“This program creates successful energetic leaders, capable of tackling the challenges ahead presented by increased competition and a tightening economy,” the ASQ says.

This program follows on from the successful Industry Ambassador Program run by Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland in 2010 and is aimed at providing apprentices with the skills they need to be leaders and ambassadors for their parts of the industry.

The program is funded by the Queensland Government’s Strategic Investment Fund and is specifically for third- and fourth-year apprentices.

Attendance is free but is required at all sessions, which take place on six consecutive Tuesdays from October 9 at SkillsTech Australia’s Acacia Ridge training centre at 247 Bradman Street.
