QTA celebrates industry achievements at Awards night

Russell says the awards recognise the achievements of transport companies and individuals

 

Followmont Transport, Frasers Livestock Transport’s Ross Fraser and Team Transport & Logistics won top honours at the 27th Queensland Trucking Association (QTA) Awards this year.

The annual industry awards event, which was held in Brisbane on October 14, was attended by 350 guests including political leaders, QTA members, suppliers, industry stakeholders and business people.

The event also celebrated QTA’s 110 years of service in the state road freight industry.

This year’s winners include:

  • Followmont Transport – Industry Safety Award
  • Ross Fraser, Frasers Livestock Transport – Industry Excellence Award
  • Team Transport & Logistics – People Leadership Excellence
  • Mark Waddington, Cannon Logistics – Professional Driver of the Year
  • Belinda Polglase, All Purpose Transport – Trucking Woman of the Year
  • Errin-Leigh Ebzery, Team Transport & Logistics and Rodolfo Morales-Diaz, Bonds Transport – joint winners of Young Achiever Award.

“The Awards focussed on and celebrates a wide range of individuals and companies for their contribution, and achievement of the highest standards, in the transport and road freight task,” QTA president Julie Russell says.

About the winners:

Followmont Transport

Followmont employs over 650 staff, runs a fleet of more than 600 vehicles and has 19 company-owned depots throughout Queensland. It is the largest independently-owned transport company in Queensland. QTA states the company won the Industry Safety Award for two significant initiatives aimed at reducing workplace incidents and improving safety for its workers, clients and public: ‘Coupling and Uncoupling of Trailers’ Safe Operating Procedure and a Load Compliance Check List that gives the driver assurance that the freight load is compliant and safe and that the company is adhering to Chain of Responsibility requirements.

Ross Fraser

A long-time contributor to the livestock transport industry, Frasers Livestock Transport MD Ross Fraser has over 50 years’ experience in the industry, Ross is a founding member of the Livestock and Rural Transporters Association Queensland (LRTAQ) and the Australian Livestock Transport Association (ALRTA). He served as chairman of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) from 2004-06. Fraser considers his chairmanship of the national peak industry body to be the highlight of his career. In 2009, Ross was awarded an OAM in recognition of his leadership of industry sector organisations and contribution to the road freight industry through his business and personal involvement.

Team Transport & Logistics (TTL)

The Queensland-based company won QTA’s People Leadership Award for addressing the driver shortage and ageing workforce issues in its business through a dedicated Truck Driver Development Program. The program creates licencing pathway and uses a ‘grow your own’ approach to tackle the driver shortage issue. The initiative is poised to change the average age of TTL’s driver workforce.

Mark Waddington

Waddington is described as a quiet achiever, hard-working, loyal and an honest employee who takes pride in his work. Waddington has recorded over 2 million+ kilometres of incident-free work at Cannon Logistics. He is a keen V8 enthusiast and Ford supporter.

Belinda Polglase

Polglaseis a senior executive within the family-ownedAll Purpose Transport business, a company known for its people leadership and workforce development. Determined to make a contribution to the family business, Polglase led the company’s Project APT that aimed to recognise the skills of the company workforce to get the best out of the businesss.

Errin-Leigh Ebzery

Ebzery works as the business development manager at Team Transport and Logistics. The 24-year-old is described as a confident and resilient person, who demonstrates leadership potential and genuinely cares for the positive growth and development of the transport industry. She says that she has found a life-long career in transport and is grateful to have found her dream job at such a young age.

Rodolfo Morales-Diaz

The 25-year-old Bonds Transport Group’s driveris said to havethe professionalism and skills of a driver beyond his age. The company says it is proud to have the future of their driving workforce in such good hands.
