Women’s Day breakfast in Townsville and lunch event in Melbourne
International Women’s Day is seeing state transport bodies Queensland Trucking Association (QTA) and the Victoran Transport Association (VTA) marking the contribution of women to the industry.
The QTA notes there is still time to book a seat its International Women’s Day breakfast event to be held at Townsville on March 22.
Among the guest speakers are: Stephanie Disher, Cummins South Pacific’s director operations, and Ewy de Guzman, Australian Defence Force (Army) lieutenant.
The theme of the events is ‘Queensland women… be involved. Lead the way’.
More details about the event can be found here.
Meanwhile, Peter Anderson, CEO VTA, which is holding its lunch on April 7, paid tribute to the role of women inside the industry and beyond.
“March 8 – International Women’s Day – has become a globally-recognised occasion to celebrate and recognise how women shape and improve all aspects of society, and to honour trailblazing women that have worked tirelessly to put women on an equal footing with men when it comes to voting, education and training, workplace relations and other important aspects of our society,” Anderson says.
“As they do in so many walks of life, women make a massive contribution to the Australian transport industry.
“On behalf of the Victorian Transport Association I would like to formally recognise and thank the thousands of women across our sector for their hard work and dedication.
“It’s no secret there is a heavy skew towards men when it comes to representation and participation in our industry, and we still need to do more to attract and retain women to the profession.
“So as well as celebrating the valuable role of women in transport, I would encourage every VTA member to today ask how they can improve female representation in their workplace, and how workplace culture can develop, evolve and improve to have better appeal among women.”
The event will feature addresses from a range of successful women, including Viva Energy Australia general manager, human resources Jodie Haydon, Deakin University Centre for Supply Chain & Logistics director Dr Hermione Parsons, with other notable speakers being confirmed.
