Daimler Truck has celebrated a milestone moment in the journey of OEM Mercedes-Benz Truck, with the series launch of the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 at its plant in Wörth, Germany.
The eActros 600 was initially announced at the end of 2023 and was voted the International Truck of the Year 2025.
The first trucks produced will be largely used as demonstration vehicles for company-owned sales and service outlets and dealers, however some customer vehicles will be produced and registered before the end of 2024.
Daimler Truck CEO Karin Rådström was present for the unveiling and says the eActros 600 can make a “real difference” in heavy transport electrification.
“The start of series production of our eActros 600 is further proof of our ambition to transform the industry,” Rådström says.
“With a range of 500km on a single battery charge, our eActros 600 is addressing the long-haul segment in Europe which is responsible for two-thirds of CO2 emissions from heavy road freight.
“Our battery electric long-haul truck will therefore make a real difference.”
In 2023 alone roughly 3300 training sessions were held at Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ Wörth factory for employees regarding new battery, high-voltage and hydrogen technologies.
The electric flagship has already undertaken a multitude of real-world tests prior to production commencing, both in customer use and as part of the ‘eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024’ where it embarked on a 15,000-kilometre journey through 22 countries with gross train weight of 40 tonnes.
Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Operations Jürgen Distl says the company is also pursuing a more sustainable production line to complement the rollout of the new generation electric truck.
“As the lead plant in the production of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, the Wörth site plays a central role, particularly with regard to the integration of battery-electric models such as the eActros 600,” Distl says.
“However, we are tackling transformation at all levels of our production network – including in the area of CO2-neutral production and our own supply chain.
“We are already being supplied by electric trucks today, and the complete electrification of delivery traffic into the Wörth plant is scheduled to take place by the end of 2026 – the eActros 600 will play a decisive role in this.”
Mercedes-Benz Trucks is one of the most popular manufacturers of heavy-duty trucks in Australia, with almost 1000 sold across the country between January and November this year.
Overall, it is the seventh most popular OEM across heavy, medium and light-duty ranges in Australia behind Isuzu, Hino, Fuso, Kenworth, Volvo and Iveco, and has sold a total of 1537 vehicles this year to November.
