SES receive new fleet of all-terrain Mercedes-Benz trucks

Mercedes-Benz Trucks says its Unimog model will be a helpful addition to the NSW SES fleet

The New South Wales State Emergency Services (SES) has received the first three of a fleet of six new Mercedes-Benz Unimog emergency response vehicles.

The all-terrain trucks will be used by SES volunteers in a wide range of flood and emergency operations such as flood rescues, evacuations, and logistic support to isolated communities.

“The SES does such valuable work for our community that it is especially satisfying for them to have chosen the Unimog U4023 for such a critical role,” says Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia Pacific Director Andrew Assimo.

“We know the Unimog’s unique capabilities will help the SES crews safely deliver assistance to those of us who are caught up in extreme situations.”

Mercedes-Benz Trucks says the Unimog vehicles possess an array of features that make them well suited to the type of work the SES undertake in a variety of challenging conditions including four-wheel drive, low gearing and a powerful turbo diesel engine.

The manufacturer saysthe vehicles can be submerged in water up to 1.2 metres, making them important for emergency service bodies

While the Unimogs are currently fitted with standard trays in order to have them in service as soon as possible and able to move people out of dangerous situations, further upgrades, including fitting a crane and flood rescue module, are being planned for these units.
