Leading Swedish freight technology company Einride has purchased 110 heavy-duty electric Scania trucks as part of a collaborative project to help transition the road freight industry to zero-emissions fleets.

The deal for 110 trucks marks Scania’s largest heavy-duty electric truck order to date and begins a collaborative product development partnership between the manufacturer and Einride.

The Swedish company is a leading provider of end-to-end digital, electric and autonomous shipping solutions.

Einride says it will begin the roll out of 110 Scania electric trucks in the second half of 2022, as this order will further expand Einride’s market presence despite already owning one of Europe’s largest heavy duty electric fleets.

The entire fleet of Scania’s order will be built to Einride’s hardware specification and will be powered by operating system Saga to ensure electric shipping for the company remains efficient and optimised.

Scania will be provided with fleet data insights through the Sata platform to continue product co-development between the two companies.

"We are looking forward to the beginning of this vital partnership as we expand across Europe," Einride chief product officer Ellen Kugelberg says.

"These 110 trucks will make a substantial contribution to increasing our fleet, while we will continue to join forces with renowned industry players such as Scania to drive innovation and product development in the global transport industry."

Einride says the landmark deal with Scania is only the beginning of a new long-term partnership that will contribute to both companies’ ambition to scale up electric road freight.

Scania head of e-mobility Fredrik Allard says: "We share the same vision of decarbonising heavy transport."

"It has been rewarding to work with Einride on joint new technical solutions and digital services that will sustainably advance our industry."

The fleet of 110 Scania trucks will be implemented throughout Europe during 2022 and the first half of 2023.
