Truck company gets the nod as robotics service provider

A major truck provider will get the chance to provide models for autonomous truck trials

Torc Robotics has announced a major manufacturer as the test fleet truck maintenance service provider for its autonomous test fleet.

Torc says that Penske Truck Leasing will be the provider for the robotics company that is looking to test self-driving vehicle technology before it commercialises the product.

The agreement between the two companies supports Torc’s motive to commercialise autonomous trucks for long-haul trips.

“Penske Truck Leasing’s expertise and track record in the global trucking industry will play a role in getting our trucks on the road and strengthening our safe operations,” Torc founder and CEO Michael Fleming says.

“Our objective is to integrate our trucks into the current freight industry and we are confident that one of the industry leaders in Penske will provide crucial support in doing that.”

Torc also recently launched the Torc Autonomous Advisory Council (TAAC) to support its goal to become the first scalable, profitable and commercialised level four truck solution that is autonomous.

Torc says that Penske, along with key freight industry leaders, will provide strategic guidance to Torc as it integrates with the freight network and tackles numerous challenges.

Penske’s senior VP of procurement and fleet planning Paul Rosa says the partnership allows of the company to control exploring autonomous options with Torc.

“We are very pleased to support Torc’s fleet uptime with our best-in-class truck maintenance program,” Rosa says.

“This arrangement serves as a great complement to our work on the Torc Autonomous Advisory Council.”
