Australian trailermaker Kennedy Trailers has signed a new tyre distribution deal with New Zealand-based Bigfoot Equipment.

With this new deal, Bigfoot is expanding its presence in the Australian market after 25 years of supply of its popular central tyre inflation (CTI) system here.

The agreement presents growth opportunity for both companies, while also offering Australia’s forestry, mining, heavy haulage, agriculture and bulk tipping industries better access and support to CTI’s latest technology.

Bigfoot’s CTI systems are manufactured and assembled in-house by a team of technicians before being shipped around the world.

It gives truck drivers the ability to adjust tyre pressures from their cab to suit the speed and weight of their vehicle.

Lowering the air pressure creates a larger area of contact between the tyre and the ground and improves traction on loose or soft surfaces.

It also saves fuel, improves tyre wear, reduces repairs and maintenance costs, and ensures heavy vehicles can safely handle steep inclines or rough terrain.

"Kennedy Trailers set the standard in Australia in terms of log trailers and truck fit outs," Bigfoot co-owner Wylie said.

"So their high standards complement our own product and company ethos."

In pre-Covid-19 years, Bigfoot staff would frequently travel to Australia to install their CTI system for customers, often at Kennedy Trailer’s own workshop in Bairnsdale, Victoria.

"Obviously, we haven’t been able to travel over to Australia and do those installations in the past 12 months so it just made sense for Kennedy to install our systems on our behalf.

"They were eager to help and once they realised how easy it was, and how quickly we could send them parts, it was a natural next step to formalise a distribution agreement."

Australian customers will now be able to order Bigfoot’s CTI system and arrange installation directly with Kennedy Trailers.

The systems and component parts will be held in stock in Bairnsdale and are able to be shipped overnight, with stock being replenished within four to five working days.

"I don’t think anyone’s going to beat us in terms of service and reliability," Neil Wylie said.

"Our product is of the highest quality. We stand behind a comprehensive warranty – three years and 500,000km.

"Our pricing is also extremely competitive."

Wylie added Bigfoot has a strong and loyal customer base in Australia, particularly in forestry, heavy haulage and bulk tipping sectors.

"We’re really excited to formalise this relationship with Kennedy Trailers and we’re looking forward to seeing how they can help expand our business.

"Our goal is to utilise their existing networks to reach further into the various sectors our CTI system caters for."

Kennedy Trailers has been working alongside Bigfoot since the company was first started by Garry Kennedy, the company noted.

His two sons, Cory and Lynden, have now joined to help grow the business further.

"Kennedy Trailers are the best trailers built in Australia, and we need the best CTI system supporting each and every one," Cory Kennedy says.

"We carefully select suppliers for various components on our trailers, but never before have we been so committed that we’ve become a distributor of another product.

"This goes to show how much confidence we have with Bigfoot."

He added Bigfoot already has a solid reputation in the Australian forestry sector, with most logging trucks in Victoria and New South Wales already having a CTI system on board.

"But there’s a massive opportunity to help Bigfoot move into other states and industries such as mining where they’re not currently well-known.

"This deal also gives our company the chance to move into the agriculture sector with super spreaders and paddock tractors, and even emergency service vehicles.

"We now have a product that will help us get our foot in the door and we’re thrilled to be working alongside such a great bunch of blokes and this brilliant CTI system."
