Knorr-Bremse OBM granted TCA type-approval

German braking system provider's local mass offering gains green light

Transport Certification Australia (TCA) has type-approved a Knorr-Bremse Australia on-board mass (OBM) system.

The Knorr-Bremse Group is a Munich-based manufacturer of braking systems with a long footprint in Australia.

OBM systems measure the mass of axle groups and calculate the gross vehicle mass of a vehicle.

Type-approval involves the assessment of OBM system ‘types’ against the performance-based requirements contained in the OBM System Functional and Technical Specification.

“For more than 115 years, we have pioneered to deliver cutting-edge and globally-successful brake control systems for both rail and commercial vehicles,” Knorr-Bremse Australia trailer business manager Gareth Lawless said.

“Innovation is one of our key core values and forms part of our company’s DNA, so attaining TCA type-approval of our OBM system is yet another significant milestone for our company.

“For our Australian technical team that developed our OBM system, it is a wonderful achievement.”

“We are now focussing our efforts on ensuring the Knorr-Bremse OBM system is available for our clients by the end of this year.”

It comes after telematics provider MTData was announced by TCA as a certified service provider through the National Telematics Framework (NTF).

MTData can now offer the Intelligent Access Program (IAP), Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA) and Road Infrastructure Management (RIM) applications to transport operators across the country.

The certification heralds the retirement of Transport Compliance Services (TCS), a fully-owned subsidiary of MTData, and one of the original IAP service providers to be certified by TCA.

Existing IAP customers with TCS are now migrated across to MTData.

With this certification, MTData can now offer the full range of applications available through the NTF to operators.
