Anything new from Kenworth is sure to spark the attention of keen-eyed truck spotters and already, there’s no shortage of social media commentary and sightings of Kenworth’s limited edition ‘Legend SAR’, apparently being prepared for this week’s Brisbane Truck Show (BTS).

The most compelling evidence of all, however, has come from an avid reader who on a dismal day snapped these images of Kenworth’s reborn SAR on the back of a northbound B-double low loader, taking a break in a quiet backlot on the NSW mid-north coast.

As these images show, our early speculation about the creation of a ‘Legend SAR’ to celebrate Paccar Australia’s 50 years of building trucks in Australia, has been right on the money.

Much like the earlier ‘Legend 900’ shown at the 2017 Brisbane Truck Show and a few years before that, the very limited Legend 950, the SAR is aimed squarely at cashed up Kenworth devotees.

Details are scarce, of course, but nostalgia figures heavily in the design.

The ‘Son of Nugget’ theme on the back wall of the sleeper, for instance, is an obvious reference to the famous SAR ‘Gold Nugget’ series of many years ago.

A few things we did notice from the photos though, the cab and sleeper appear to be mounted on the same set of straight rails to maintain durability of the two structures.

And to keep the purists happy, Kenworth has deservedly kept the traditional skinny cab rather than the latest 2.1-metre-wide shed adorning the T610 and T410 models.

Nostalgia indeed!
