Recalls on Actros part and Michelin truck tyres

Air deflector weakness and micro air bubbles identified respectively

Certain Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks and Michelin truck tyres are the subject of recall notices.

Of the trucks, there are 20 affected vehicles and the model year is 2018.

“The outer section of the front grille air deflectors could detach partially or entirely from the inner section of vehicle,” the recall notice states.

“Clips could slowly detach due to the wind loads that arise during operation.

“If the clips of the front grille air deflectors break, the outer section may completely detach from the vehicle increasing the risk of injury or an accident to other road users.

“Owners will be contacted to advise them of the recall and that parts are not yet available to conduct a repair.

“Until parts are available, drivers are advised to perform visual inspections of the front grille as part of their daily departure check routine and a check guide is available for that.”

If the vehicle fails the inspection, owners are requested to remove the air deflectors immediately and contact an authorised Daimler Truck and Bus dealership.

Once parts are available, owners will be contacted again to arrange a mutually convenient time for a free of charge repair at any authorised Daimler Truck and Bus dealership, the notice states.

A complete list of authorised dealerships can be found at using the link here.

VIN details of affected trucks and the Front grille air deflectors check guide are available here.

Meanwhile, a manufacturing fault affects Michelin 11R22.5 XDY3 148/145K TL truck tyres sold between October 1 and February 13 and made in Thailand between September and February.

“If there is rapid pressure loss or the tyre degrades this may lead to tyre failure, resulting in a loss of vehicle control,” the recall notice states.

“This may increase the risk of an accident or injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.

“A manufacturing change resulted in micro air bubbles forming in and between certain components in the shoulder of the tyre.

“This may lead to rapid pressure loss or reduced performance in the tyre.

“Owners should return the affected tyre to the place of purchase or a Michelin authorised dealer for an inspection and replacement of the tyre, free of charge.”

Owners are advised that each tyre has a Department of Transport (DOT) Tyre Identification Number which is located on the sidewall of the tyre.

The affected tyres have DOT 3L3T followed by the number (week and year) 3919 (inclusive) to 0520 (inclusive).

Owners should return the affected tyre to the place of purchase or a Michelin authorised dealer for an inspection and replacement of the tyre, free of charge.
