Replacements required for affected speed sensors or airbags
Selected Hino 700 Series and Iveco Eurocargo models are being recalled with speed sensor and airbag issues, respectively.
In 162 Hino 700 Series vehicles made between July 6, 2012 and June 28, 2014, the problem may extend to incorrect speeds being displayed on the speedometer.
The issue is caused by a speed sensor being manufactured using materials that have different thermal expansion properties.
When the temperature increases, the materials inside the sensor expand at different rates, causing the component parts to interfere with vehicle operations.
“If this occurs, this may create an open circuit. When an open circuit occurs, this results in the brake system and/or transmission warning lamp turning itself on,” the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says.
“The speedometer needle may also bounce during operation or stop. The operator will be unable to correctly determine the operating speed of the vehicle. This may lead to not following the required speed limit, posing an accident risk for the occupant and other road users.”
Owners of affected vehicles should contact their local Hino dealership to have the speed sensor replaced free of charge.

There have also been 82 Iveco Eurocargo Euro 6 models, sold between January 1, 2017 and December 6, 2018 recalled over Takata airbag issues.
As the airbag inflator gets older, a combination of high temperatures and humidity can cause its propellant to degrade. If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the airbag, the metal inflator housing may explode or rupture under too much internal pressure.
“In the event that a defective airbag inflator ruptures, metal fragments may propel out through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or fatality,” ACCC says.
Owners of affected vehicles have been advised to make arrangements with an Iveco dealership to have the airbag replaced as soon as possible.
