Penske Commercial Vehicles in Western Star recall

Fire risk due to improperly installed power cable stud

Western Star series 4700, 4800, 4900, 5800 and 6900 trucks, sold between September 12, 2016 and February 6, 2018 are being recalled.

On certain vehicles, the power cable stud with an attached gasket seal may not protrude through the bulkhead adequately.

“If improperly installed, the power cable stud may contact the bulkhead, resulting in electrical arcing, increasing the risk of a fire,” the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says.

Replacement parts will be available from December 2018.

Inspection and repair will be free of charge.

“Affected consumers/lessees can contact their authorised Western Star Trucks dealer/leasor and quote campaign number FL766,” ACCC says.

“Consumers should take their vehicle for inspection (and repair if applicable).”

The recall affects 571 vehicles. A list of VINs can be found here.
