Nearly 1,000 Mercedes-Benz trucks recalled

Front grille air deflectors clips could slowly detach during operation

More than 930 Mercedes-Benz Actros 963 and 50 Arocs 964 models are being recalled by Daimler Truck and Bus Australia with front grille issues.

For models sold between January 1, 2017 and November 2, 2018, the outer section of the front grille air deflectors could detach partially or entirely from the inner section or vehicle.

Clips could slowly detach due to the wind loads that arise during operation.

“Front grille air deflectors clips may break and in the worst case, the outer section could completely detach from the vehicle increasing the risk of injury or an accident,” Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says.

The ACCC notes that replacement parts are currently not available, but owners will be notified when they are and, in the meantime, will be notified how to perform visual inspections as part of their daily maintenance routine.

“If there is evidence of the clips detaching as per the instructions, owners are requested to remove the air deflectors following these instructions, or take the vehicle into any authorised Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealership to have them removed.”
