Linfox taps Scania for fleet modernisation

First of 42 P Series vehicles delivered to logistics giant

Linfox has taken delivery of its first Scania New Truck Generation (NTG) P 450 prime mover.

Adorned in the Linfox livery, the Euro 6 6×4 prime movers are the first of a total of 42, to be used predominantly in metropolitan operations.

The 450hp (336kW) six-cylinder engine produces 2350Nm of torque and contains a 710-litre fuel tank, with 75 litres of AdBlue.

Other features include:

  • lowest-entry cab currently available in Australia
  • sleeper cabs fitted as standard with side curtain roll-over airbags, a full-size mattress, a large window in the backwall to assist hooking-up, and glass sunroof/emergency exit
  • front axle moved 50mm further forward, moving the driver closer to the screen and the door
  • a larger windscreen and redesigned A-pillars
  • full Scania safety pack including adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning
  • larger brakes that deliver a shorter stopping distance.

“Scania is very pleased to have a fleet customer as important as Linfox take delivery of our New Truck Generation P-series,” Scania Australia managing director Mikael Jansson says.

“We have only recently begun delivery of the NTG vehicles in Australia and this is the biggest fleet order we have delivered of the NTG.

“We see this order as a vote of confidence in the Scania NTG vehicle, and our joint commitment to safety and sustainability.

“The Scania NTG is the safest truck in Australia thanks to its comprehensive safety features including the only side curtain rollover protection airbags available in the truck market.

“Linfox was also very keen to take advantage of our Euro 6 engine, which offers significantly reduced emissions.

“Linfox has very high expectations for the new trucks, which we are confident they will meet and exceed.”

Linfox fleet and procurement president Ray Gamble says the purchase forms the company’s strategy to modernise its fleet, taking advantage of new technology that improves safety, efficiency and emissions.

“These investments ensure we are positioned to deliver more efficient and safer logistics for our customers and our community. We look forward to bringing the benefits of these investments to our customers and community in 2019,” he says.
