Ford Ranger in new round of recalls

Door latch issues could cause door to open while driving

More than 85,000 Ford Rangers are being recalled with side-door latch issues.

For models built between May 23, 2011 and May 20, 2015, the pawl spring tab in a side-door latch may break, which can prevent the door from latching.

“In certain situations where the door is able to be closed, the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury,” the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says.

“If the door opens while the vehicle is in use, the occupant may fall out.”

The ACCC says affected consumers will be contacted by Ford, but users who discover the defect in their vehicle should immediately contact their local Ford dealer for a diagnosis appointment.

“Consumers should quote Safety Recall 18S06 when booking a diagnosis appointment and repair,” the ACCC says.

Along with the Ranger, nearly 43,000 Ford Fiestas have also been affected by this defect.
