Daimler dealership proves AHG confidence

Daimler Trucks Laverton now open after AHG's greenfield title investment in Melbourne's west

Australia’s largest Daimler Trucks dealership has opened in Melbourne’s western suburbs, representing the final step in a $30 million investment from Automotive Holdings Group (AHG).

Speaking at the opening yesterday, AHG spokesman David Christison said the dealership was a substantial investment for the company.

“It reflects the great confidence we have in the Daimler brand and the ability of (dealer principal Don Hovenden) and his team to produce the results that both Daimler and AHG expect and require,” he said.

“The investment also reflects the confidence we have in the future growth of the Australian economy notwithstanding the occasional challenges experienced in recent times.”

The 11,000sqm facility, which is also the largest single project in AHG’s dealership portfolio, sits on a 68,000sqm greenfield site near the former Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles dealership on Marwen Drive, which AHG acquired in July 2015.

Hovenden thanked company staff who had helped with the move from the old facility to the new, noting that it had all occurred over one weekend.

“In two days we moved hundreds of trucks and vans, thousands of individual parts, and all the files and paperwork for sales, service, parts and administration,” he said.

“It was a major undertaking and it all went off perfectly.”

Hovenden says the new facility is one of the biggest and most modern heavy truck facilities in Australia, with 48 work bays, including two road train bays; six wash bays with recycling and recovery systems and almost 300 truck parking bays.

Located on Boundary Road in Truganina, Daimler Trucks Laverton will offer the full range of Mercedes-Benz trucks and buses, Freightliner prime movers, the Fuso range and Mercedes-Benz vans.

In-ground pits in the workshop areas will give technicians compete access to the underside of vehicles up to a B-double combination, and an overhead crane system that can be placed at any co-ordinate over the 48 truck bays for engine removal and replacement.

Daimler Trucks North America senior vice president of sales and marketing Richard Howard said the Laverton facility was one of Australia’s most impressive truck dealerships, alongside AHG’s Daimler Trucks dealership in Perth.

“AHG is the number one valued partner for Daimler Trucks in Australia – it has invested in all locations:  Daimler Trucks Perth, Daimler Trucks Brisbane and Newcastle, and now here in Laverton,” he said.

“Thank you for your leadership and commitment to our brands.”
