Operators can pitch new and innovative ways to improve safety in the workplace
Western Sydney transport businesses are invited to have their say on ways to protect industry workers at a SafeWork NSW forum next week.
SafeWork NSW acting executive director Jodie Deakes said the workshop kicks off at the Novotel Sydney in Rooty Hill at 9.15am on Thursday, and will give the local transport industry the chance to pitch new and innovative ways to improve safety in the workplace.
The workshop aims to help SafeWork NSW develop a new statewide safety plan for the industry as part of its Work Health and Safety Roadmap for NSW 2022.
Deakes says the session meant SafeWork could get the best insight into issues facing regional transport businesses.
“Sadly, we’re still seeing a significant number of workplace injuries and illnesses in the NSW transport sector,” she adds.
“In fact, there have been 19,220 workers compensation claims in the four years to July 2016, at a cost of $352 million to the NSW workers compensation scheme.
“The workshop will bring together employers, workers, peak bodies, associations, and community leaders to discuss ways to improve safety so every worker stays safe on the job.”
