Over 380 Mercedes-Benz Vito vans recalled

Potential airbag issue in vans sold between May and July 2015

A recall has been issued for Mercedes-Benz MY15 V Class / Vito vans due to an airbag issue.

“The driver airbag could be triggered without obvious cause,” a notice on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) states.

“This is due to electrostatic discharge if the steering column is not sufficiently grounded and the steering column switch module is already damaged or faulty.

“An airbag warning message will alert the driver via the instrument cluster display as well as a red airbag indicator lamp that the steering column module is damaged or faulty.”

The issue can result in accident and injury to the driver.

The recall affects 382 vans sold between May 1, 2015 and July 31, 2015.

Owners of affected vehicles are advised to contact their nearest authorised Mercedes-Benz van retailer to arrange a free inspection and rectification.

The full list of affected vehicles is available here.
