Recall for Benz Atego 970 trucks

Vehicles sold between October 2013 to April 2014 affected

A recall has been issued of Mercedes-Benz Atego 970 trucks due to an issue with the rear axle housing.

The callback affects vehicles sold between October 16, 2013 to April 8, 2014.

“A deeply contoured weld seam on the rear axle housing was not welded correctly during the production process on certain vehicles of the Atego 970,” a notice on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) website states.

“The incorrect weld could decrease the amount of force the rear axle housing is capable of withstanding/transferring and could lead to crack formation and breakage, increasing the risk of an accident for the occupants and other road users.”

Owners are advised to contact an authorised Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle dealership to have the rear axle housing replaced free of charge.
