Certain Mercedes-Benz Econic trucks recalled

Seatbelt problem triggers alert related to specific models

 

A recall has been issued of certain Mercedes-Benz Econic 956 models over a seatbelt restraint issue.

“In specific Econic 956 models used as refuse vehicles, the steel cables of the seat belt anchor, installed between the raised centre seat and the co-driver’s seat, may be deformed by more than 90 degrees (contrary to the original specification) as a result of the continual getting in and out of the vehicle,” the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) notice states.

“This may cause fractures of individual steel braids on the seat belt anchor. As the required tension force is no longer achieved as a result of individual, fractured steel braids on the seat belt anchor, the seat belt restraint function may no longer be sufficient.”

Owners are advised to contact authorised Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealerships to arrange vehicle inspection and repair.
