Uber launches new trucking app in North America

Uber believes its Freight app has an answer to T&L's delayed pay times issue

Six years and two billions trips after Uber launched its revolutionary ride-sharing app, the company has made the move into trucking with a free driver-focused app.

The Uber Freight app, as it’s been appropriately named, has officially launched in the US with the aim of revolutionising the transport industry and improving working conditions for operators.

In promotional material, Uber highlights that users simply download the app, search for a load and tap to book it.

The best part, Uber says, is that you get a load price upfront followed by an instant booking confirmation, and you’re paid within seven days.

“When trucking companies get paid, they typically have to wait 30 days or longer, enough time to sink a small business,” Uber said in a blog post announcing the app.

“Uber Freight is committed to paying within a few days, fee-free, for every single load.”

Uber’s primary goal, according to the company’s blog post, is improving the industry starting with drivers.

“We fundamentally believe that by focusing on drivers’ pain points we can solve the industry’s biggest challenges.

“Happy drivers means happy shippers, and ultimately everyone benefits, including the end consumers of the goods.

“We’ve built a team of industry experts, leading technologists, and, of course, truck drivers to help us push the industry forward and level the playing field for trucking companies.”

Uber Freight is available for download in the US on iOS and Android devices, free of charge.
