Company says it focuses on producing quality tippers, low loaders and livestock crates

Family owned and operated Rhino Trailers is marking its 45th year in business with a record order book.

A part of the Davey Group of Companies, CEO Tony Davey attributes the company’s robust sales to a focus on producing aluminium/high-tensile steel tippers, low loaders, livestock crates and associated equipment "exceptionally well rather than trying to deliver more units to market".

The company will showcase its line of products at the Brisbane Truck Show this year.

Rhino Trailers has rationalised its product range to support three sectors of transport: livestock, bulk transport and heavy haulage.

Improvements in quality during the build, and the quality of the finish, have also played a key role in Rhino Trailers’ success, he adds.

The company’s 40,000-square-metre factory at Toowoomba, staffed by around 120 highly skilled tradespeople, features a comprehensive offering under one roof, including a protective coatings facility as well as facilities for servicing, modifications and refurbishments.

Rhino Trailers fully weld every seam on every trailer rather than stitch weld. While this process adds time to the fabrication process, it removes the opportunity for rust to develop as a result of contact with effluent in a stitch-welded seam.

The company also sand blasts every single surface on each crate before applying two-pack paint to all surfaces, including the underside. That gives the finish greater longevity.

Davey says the in-house coating division gives Rhino Trailers full control over painting and baking with two-pack paint processes.

Under this one-stop shop model Rhino is also promoting full refurbish and major crash repairs to ensure it can offer as much support to the end user as possible.

"Davey Group’s family culture assists us to quickly develop and maintain working relationships which is allowing significant growth in tight markets," Davey says.

"Continual improvement through our experience and industry feedback is a strong focus and the level of repeat business secured is testament to delivering on that promise."

To sustain its strong position Davey says Rhino Trailers is investing heavily in research and development.

New products under development include 4x2 stock rates; as well as refined features in its growing low-loader offerings.

Rhino Trailers low-loader range includes 6x8 floats, two or three-axled tag-along trailers, three or four-row deck-wideners, right up to 3x8 or 4x8 larger trailers.

The company is also focused on reducing lead times through improved manufacturing processes.

Founded in 1972, the Davey Group of Companies also includes Australian Farm Machinery (AFM), whose product range comprises stick rakes, ploughs, chaser bins, canopies for dozers, and farming implements.

The division also distributes Grainmaster silos, ranging upwards from 5.2 tonnes to large capacity storage facilities.
