Iron Knight takes a new challenge

Volvo’s 2,400hp race truck has a new opponent in the company’s new video

Volvo Trucks has released new video of its record-breaking Iron Knight truck, this time rather than pitting it against a stopwatch, it goes head-to-head against the Volvo S60 Polestar TC1.

The Iron Knight, which was unveiled in August, is the current record-holder for the fastest 500m and 1,000m runs from a standing start.

Driven by Boije Ovebrink, The Iron Knight reached an average speed of 169km/h in the 1km trial, besting the distance in 21.29 seconds.

For the shorter record, the custom truck averaged 131.29km/h over the 500m, completing it in 13.71 seconds.

Like the time trials, the new video showcases two runs: a quarter-mile drag race and a lap of the Mantorp race track in Sweden.

The S60, fresh from its win at the FIA World Touring Car Championship Race in China, has the same acceleration from zero as the Iron Knight, reaching 100km/h in 4.6 seconds.
