Japanese construction and material leasing company Nikken Lease has partnered with Swiss-based wireless and positioning parts manufacturer u-blox to launch Transeeker, a trackable pallet.

Featuring u-box’s cellular and positioning technology – UMTS/HSPA(+) module LISA‑U200‑62S and u‑blox 7 standalone GNSS module EVA‑7M – to follow it during transit, the new Transeeker pallets are made of plastic, reusable, and available as a rental service.

Nikken Lease planning director Tsumura says the pallets, which are initially focused on the Japanese market, were designed with accuracy in mind.

"When we designed Transeeker, we wanted to ensure that we could locate it precisely and retrieve it nationwide at low costs for our customers," Tsumura says.

"u‑blox is just the right partner with excellent product performance and unique features such as CellLocate."

CellLocate, which sits within the LISA-U200-62S unit, is a u-box innovation that can offer both indoor and outdoor positioning information thanks to its hybrid GPS and mobile network attributes.

Primarily using GSM/UMTS cell information in conjunction with GPS positioning data, the module can also be tracked worldwide via W‑CDMA(UMTS) and GPRS/EDGE coverage and an easy migration to u‑blox GSM/GPRS, CDMA and LTE modules.

The other piece of technology embedded in the Transeeker is the EVA‑7M single GNSS module.

According to u-box, the second "module features the reliable performance of the u‑blox 7 positioning engine (receiving GPS, GLONASS, QZSS and SBAS signals) and delivers high sensitivity and minimal acquisition times in the ultra compact EVA form factor."

u-box Japanese country manager Tesshu Naka, says the "collaboration with Nikken Lease should help us strengthen our position in the Japanese market as a key player for IoT applications."

"We are looking forward to more collaboration with Nikken Lease," Naka says.
