TAFE Queensland SkillsTech has a brand-new Mack Granite cab-chassis truck for its workshop this week thanks to Volvo Group Australia.

The donation, which will be used as a training tool for future heavy-vehicle technicians, was warmly received by the institution’s general manager Mary Campbell who stressed the importance of such support.

“Volvo Group Australia’s generous donation of this truck enables SkillsTech to provide the best possible training for our apprentices,” Campbell says.

“On behalf of TAFE Queensland SkillsTech, I would like to thank Volvo Group Australia for investing in the future of the heavy vehicle industry, and I’m confident our apprentices will make great employees, thanks to your support.”

Speaking to a collected group of apprentices during the Mack handover, Volvo Group Australia president Peter Voorhoeve highlighted the “great pride” the donation provides.

“We have a long history of cooperation with SkillsTech, but to provide a truck that they can use to train the future generations of workshop technicians means great things for our industry as a whole,” he says.

“Technology is constantly evolving but a good understanding of how all the components of a truck work together is critical.

“You have made the first steps into an exciting and thriving industry, and I look forward to seeing many of you working in our workshops in years to come.”

Placing a huge importance on “world-class technicians” and how they can aid the business boost customer satisfaction and subsequently market share, Voorhoeve says “Volvo Group Australia has an obligation to support the future generations of technicians so we can continue to provide world-class service.

“After meeting a small group of first-year apprentices today, and seeing the fantastic facilities in which they are trained, I have full confidence that our industry will have the high-quality technicians we need.”
