Paccar Parts campaign is raising awareness and funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia
Paccar Parts is hoping to donate $50,000 to prostate cancer research by the end of October as part of a ‘Parts for Parts’ fundraising campaign.
Leading the charge is ambassador and former AFL football player Sam Kekovich, encouraging Australian men to get themselves checked and contribute to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) cause.
One of the biggest risk factors facing local truck drivers, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer for Australian men and the campaign aims to boost awareness in the transport industry.
As part of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Paccar Parts says it will be donating a proportion of profits from selected products directly to the PCFA.
The parts supplier will also facilitate in-store donations.
Paccar Parts’ sales and marketing services manager Marian Dekker says the campaign is about the health of Australian truck drivers.
“Our truckies are responsible for keeping this country moving, however all that time on the road can be detrimental to their health,” she says.
“We want to encourage Aussie truckies to look out for their wellbeing and take steps towards reducing their prostate cancer risk factors – that means living a healthier lifestyle, moving more and improving their diet.”
With over 3,000 men dying of the disease each year, the PCFA says men need to be aware of their family history and consider their overall health and lifestyle.
PCFA Victoria and Tasmania state manager John Strachan says the campaign “is a fantastic way to raise awareness and help pave the road towards better health.”
“The money raised will go towards community education activities, world-leading cancer research and sufferer support services,” he says.
“This means we will be able to better target men in isolated areas and occupations – such as truckies – to help them lead a healthier lifestyle and know when to see a general practitioner.”
A fundraising barbecue will be held at Paccar Parts’ Bayswater headquarters on September 29.
