Mobicon Systems has won the contract to supply a purpose-built Eco Mini Straddle Carrier for the Australian Department of Defence.

The Australian-based company, which will supply the new vehicle to an undisclosed location in South Australia, designs and manufacturers Mini Straddle Carriers for a variety of industries from logistics and ports to mining.

“Working with the ADF is an excellent fit for Mobicon,” managing director Tom Schults says.

“As the ADF continue to innovate and look for more cost efficient, safe and productive ways to carry out their operations, Mobicon in-turn are committed to providing our customers worldwide with the best designs, services and solutions to meet their container handling needs.

“Mobicons are designed to be the most manoeuverable, safe and low yard impact container handling systems on the market, ensuring the ADF can use them in day to day operations across a broad range of terrains with no damage to their yard facilities.”

According to the company, its “unique 8-wheel design” is proven to avoid damage to the average yard and makes the vehicle “suitable for all terrain”.

“The Mobicon Mini Straddle Carrier is a safer, and more cost effective solution than forklifts or side loaders for organisations who need to handle between 7-200 containers per week,” Mobicon says in a statement.

“It’s light weight, easy to use, and superior manoeuvrability makes the Mobicon the first choice for organisations such as the Australian Defence Force.”

The Mobicon Systems products are designed and assembled in Brisbane.
