Warehousing technology manufacturer Zebra Technologies Corporation has launched the TC8000, a lightweight enterprise mobile computer that promises productivity and fatigue benefits.

The company says the new Android-based computer can increase efficiency in warehouse settings "by an average of 14 per cent based on workflow," as it is 33 per cent lighter than traditional mobile computers and removes the need for ‘tilt and verify’ movements in the wrist.

Zebra Technologies’ senior vice president of enterprise visibility and mobility Bill Burns says the design of the TC8000 contributes to "an extra hour of productivity per worker per shift without disrupting existing IT systems."

"Warehouses are evolving from simplified operations to tightly integrated profit centres as companies increasingly rely on analytics to drive business decisions," he says.

"The TC8000 will help warehouse workers be more efficient and deliver more accurate information, ultimately helping businesses operate more profitably."

Capable of working in warehouses, third-party logistics, manufacturing, and back-of-store retail environments, the TC8000 can cover price audits, inventory management, voice-directed picking, supply-line replenishment, store receiving, and warehouse management.

Measuring 233mm x 76mm x 64mm, the 490g device offers a triple-shift battery and is compatible with Zebra’s hands-free proximity scanner in a handheld device and Zebra’s SimulScan Document Capture.

The TC8000 also automatically updates Terminal Emulation screens into graphics-based All-touch Terminal Emulation screens without the need for back-end system modification.

Running the Android 4.4.3 (KitKat) operating system, the device features a colour touchscreen and is able to withstand drops from 2.4m to concrete.

Zebra says local availability details will be announced in the coming weeks.
