New Manitou models can lift 9 tonnes and reach 7m or 14m high

Equipment manufacturer Manitou has two new telehandler models for the Australian and New Zealand markets with the launch of the MHT-X 790 and the MHT-X 1490.

Manitou says both models have a 9-tonne lift capacity and a 6-tonne capacity at maximum reach height, which for the MHT-X 790 is 7m and for the MHT-X 1490 is 14m.

Capacity at maximum forward reach is also the same for both vehicles, sitting at 3.5 tonnes, though the 1490 can extend out to 9.5m and the 790m to 3.72m.

With a 141hp (104kW) John Deere engine and a hydrostatic transmission, the smaller 790 model can haul its 13-tonne mass to a top speed of 30km/h and turn itself around in 4.88m.

"Equipped with 4-wheel steering modes, the MHT-X 790 offers a very flexible all terrain drive and full maneuverability in confined spaces," Manitou says.

"The MHT-X 790 excels on uneven ground conditions thanks to its 4-wheel drive, a generous ground clearance of 41cm, its weight/power ratio, and a tractive force of 10,905daN."

Besides its reach, the 20.8-tonne MHT-X 1490 has a number of differences to its smaller variant, including the addition of frame levelling and stabilisers capabilities; 176hp (129kW) Mercedes engine; a larger turning radius at 5.34m; and a slightly higher top speed of 31km/h.

Manitou says the 1490 has a new, reinforced cab that has been raised to improve visibility.

"The cab is spacious and equipped with a new dashboard and simplified instruments," it says.

"The JSM (Joystick Switch and Move) is also included as a standard: the JSM consolidates all boom movements as well as forward and reverse travel, enabling the operator to control all machine movements from one hand."

Manitou says that each machine can be tailored via one of its dealerships to meet specific needs of its customers.
