International Location Systems launches dash cam

Transport operators have a new choice with the arrival of the Roamio Active GPS Dash Cam

International Location Systems (ILS) is launching the Roamio Active GPS Dash Cam, and its end-to-end cloud-based portal, to assist commercial vehicle drivers with on-road incidents.

According to the company, the Roamio features Full HD recording, real-time GPS tracking and a built-in backup battery.

The dashboard camera operates in moments, storing video files when its integrated advanced shock sensor notices unusual activity.

If triggered, the camera automatically saves a Full HD video recording of the previous period of time to the on-board SD card and renames it to avoid being overwritten.

When it comes to playing back the footage, the Roamio has accompanying software that displays the video; incident time and date information; its location through Google Maps; and speed and direction data.

The dashboard camera features real-time GPS tracking thanks to a 3G mobile phone module, allowing customers to also see the vehicle’s location via a web portal or mobile application in 60-second increments.

Through the portal, customers can see reports of speeding, which can be user defined, and access full trip history.

ILS director Mario Veronese says orders for the Roamio, which are sold with a connected 3G SIM card, are currently underway in Australia.

The pricing model is in two parts, he says, with the cost inclusive of the unit and an ongoing monthly service plan.

“The plan covers the cost of the SIM and associated data plan which keeps the unit online and allows it to update its location 1,440 times per day, 7 days per week,” he says.

Veronese says he does not envisage enforcing a service plan, rather customers will be able to purchase blocks of connection time.

“If they don’t want to continue with the connection and the real-time GPS tracking, the unit will continue to function as a high-end dash cam with all the usual features,” he says.

The first delivery date of the Roamio in Australia is scheduled for early December.
