Concerns over front brake pads and vehicle jacks force Foton recalls
In two different notices, local Foton distributor Ateco Automotive has recalled an unknown number of ute and truck models due to issues with supplied front brake pads and vehicle jacks.
According to an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) notice a number of SWB, MWB, and Aumark variants have been fitted with front brake pads that “display excessive amounts of thermal expansion, resulting in the brakes dragging under certain conditions.”
“If the defect occurs, the front brakes may engage and not release, posing an accident hazard to the driver and other road users,” the notice says.
A list of affected vehicles has been supplied (accessible here) by Ateco Automotive, which advises customers to contact their authorised Foton dealer.
The second notice, which says it impacts all Foton trucks, concerns the supplied vehicle jack not meeting mandatory standards for Australia and New Zealand “due to incorrect labelling.”
“The labels may not contain information on the correct use of jack or the correct oil specification to use in the jack,” the ACCC notice says.
“Consumers may incorrectly use the product, creating a crushing hazard.”
Owners impacted by the second notice will receive a letter instructing them to contact their dealership.
