Hino warns against AdBlue, genuine lubricants avoidance

Hino says 700 Series trucks with SCR need genuine liquids to extend life, reduce emissions

Hino Australia has issued a warning to truck drivers to avoid potential vehicle damage caused by the use of diesel exhaust fluid and lubricants that do not pass original equipment makers’ (OEM) standards.

The use of fraudulent or ‘back-yard’ sourced diesel exhaust fluid has been a point of deep concern amongst OEM and reputable suppliers almost since the technology’s inception, with the issue arising of vehicle warranties being voided as a result of misuse.

Hino says 700 Series trucks that feature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) emissions control systems require AdBlue to function, equipment that, when malfunctioning, can increase the levels of harmful NOx emissions.

“’Pirate’ AdBlue from non-authorised sources has the potential to damage the AdBlue dosing unit and/or the SCR muffler unit, which leads to expensive repairs,” Hino says.

“SCR system failure can lead to significantly reduced engine power output due to the truck’s ECU registering increased emission output, as well as other unforeseen damage to the truck’s engine.

“Hino diesel engines require specifically graded lubricants to ensure optimal performance and durability; use of incorrect engine oils has the potential to block the catalyst system, cause premature wear and even increase fuel consumption.”

Recommending the company’s own range of oils, Hino Motor Sales Australia chairman and CEO Steve Lotter says the cost makes sense.

“Correctly maintained Hino engines can cover very large distances and SCR emissions control systems can do their job with very little maintenance,” Lotter says.

“Using Hino genuine fluids and lubricants is a cost-effective way to maintain Hino trucks and buses for long-term performance.”
