Moffett crowns top Australian forkie

Australian forklift competition winner heading to Ireland to tackle the Moffett World Championship

The Australian qualification rounds for Hiab’s inaugural Moffett World Driver Championship has been won by J&J Freightlines’ Jason Galea.

After competitions in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, Galea, the managing director and co-owner of J&J Freightlines, achieved the highest score in the country and has been awarded the title of Australia’s best Moffett driver.

Tailoring his craft delivering brick and masonry products to building sites over J&J Freightlines’ 13-year history, Galea will represent the country in the Moffett Driver World Championship to be held in Dundalk, Ireland on October 24.

The winner of the Irish competition will have the chance to allocate which charity will receive the money raised by the Moffett 70th Charity Auction, currently sitting at €37,500, and a personal travel voucher.

The Moffett challenge was devised to celebrate the Hiab subsidiary’s 70th anniversary and encompasses qualification rounds in the US, Canada, South Africa, Ireland, France, Holland, Germany, Scandinavia and the UK.

The competition, open to all owners and operators of Moffett forklifts, put competitors through a course to test their mounting and dismounting skills, their ability to perform safety checks, handle obstacles and carry loads to dedicated locations.

The time-based test’s criteria was drawn from members of the Moffett Training Academy, who set the course and the scoring system, and marked operators on precision and efficiency in confined spaces.
