Australian transportation and logistics company Toll Group has signed a deal with US safety technology firm Seeing Machines to integrate new driver safety systems across its fleet.

Seeing Machines manufactures image-processing technology that monitors an individual’s eyes, face, head and facial movements to tackle driver fatigue and distractions.

According to the company, its solution features an in-cab sensor, real-time alerts, safety analytics and office monitoring that aims to both keep drivers away from accidents and provide transport operators with trends and actionable insights.

"We’ve implemented this best-in-class technology into an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that monitors driver fatigue and distraction events in real time, enacting an intervention strategy that improves driver and environmental safety," it says.

One of a number of companies already working with Seeing Machines, the deal will see an update to Toll’s fleet and an expansion into other areas of the business.

Speaking on the deal, Seeing Machines general manager of fleet commercial management Michael Caggiano says the agreement is a nod of approval for his company’s direction.

"Toll has been a key supporter of Seeing Machines, being one of the earliest adopters of the Driver Safety System," Caggiano says.

"The agreement to release the new Fleet product into their operations confirms that this solution is what the Fleet industry needs and wants."

National compliance manager of Toll Resources & Government Logistics Bill Law says the move will expand the collaboration between the two companies.

"At Toll, safety is our priority and we continually seek to improve the environment that our employees work in," Law says.

"Seeing Machines is a leading provider of fatigue and distraction mitigation systems, and we have worked closely together for a number of years successfully keeping our people safe. Toll is proud to be leading the adoption of this technology."
