Penske opens truck rental business in Australia

Operation kicks off with 20 MAN and Western Star prime movers in Brisbane

Penske Commercial Vehicles has announced the start of truck rental services in Australia.

The venture will operate under the brand name “Penske Truck Rental”.

US-owned Penske Commercial Vehicles has exclusive distribution of MAN and Western Star Trucks in Australia and New Zealand.

Penske has a big truck rental and leasing operation in North America, with more than 200,000 vehicles.

“We have an ambitious growth plan for our truck leasing and rental businesses,” Penske Truck Leasing president and CEO Brian Hard says.

“This new location will serve as a foundation for us to begin expanding and serving commercial truck fleet customers throughout Australia.”

The first truck rental office is located within the Brisbane Truck Centre at Rocklea, and the company says it plans to expand rental services to other areas in coming months.

It says the operation will initially be a 20-truck fleet of high-spec MAN and Western Star prime movers.

The 540hp (397kW) MAN TGS 6×4 prime movers use a 12-speed Tipmatic transmission.

The Western Stars are the 4864 FS2 and 4864 FXC. The FS2 has a day cab while the FXC comes with a sleeper. Both are powered by the 560hp (412kW) DD15 coupled to Eaton’s UltraShift Plus transmission

The trucks are equipped with toll transponders and GPS units.
