Caltex is putting a new diesel products system into operation in the Hunter region of New South Wales.
Dubbed TecDiesel Advantage , the system involves a spread of advances related to engine maintenance and performance.
The package that has been subject to testing in Australia will assist commercial diesel customers to reduce related costs, according to Caltex.
"Caltex has responded to these challenges by introducing the Caltex TecDiesel Advantage, a holistic and cost-effective package that includes three new advanced diesel products, along with fuel filtering processes, site-specific engineering solutions and a fuel-saving low-viscosity engine oil," Caltex general manager marketing Bruce Rosengarten says.
"Independent tests, designed to replicate Australian conditions, demonstrated that the TecDiesel Advantage program delivers increased power output and potential fuel economy savings through improvements to injector cleanliness."
Conducted by Orbital Corporation in Western Australia, the testing saw a six-cylinder common-rail Cummins QSK19 turbo-diesel engine operated using regular diesel and an accelerant to replicate a level of injector deposit build-up typical of longer-term engine operation.
"The engine’s performance, power output, fuel flow and fuel consumption were measured throughout the process, with tests then showing up to 78 per cent recovery in lost power output and complete restoration of lost fuel flow through the injectors when the same engine was operated using Caltex Active TecD," Caltex says of the testing.
"Injectors were also visibly cleaner when using the new product and their improved cleanliness was confirmed through restoration of fuel flow."
