Chinese trailer giant buys WA manufacturer

CIMC continues its Australian expansion with acquisition of the West’s General Transport Equipment

CIMC Australia Road Transport Equipment has bought out big Western Australian trailer manufacturer General Transport Equipment.

GTE designs and builds numerous types of highly customised trailers, chemical tankers and rigid truck bodies for the rural, chemical, mining and general freight industries.

The Perth-based company says it builds to suit specific WA road conditions, and is a “major player” in the West.

CIMC Australia Road Transport Equipment has been operating in Australia for 10 years, with its head office in Melbourne.

It’s part of the China International Marine Containers (CIMC) group.

CIMC says it has been the world’s largest shipping container manufacturer for over a decade.

The Australian division’s products include tautliner trailers, skels, flat-tops, tankers and domestic freight containers.

CIMC says it is “one step closer” to its goal of becoming one of the leading semi-trailer manufacturers in Australia after achieving ISO 9001 certification last November.

In 2007, CIMC bought prominent Australian tanker manufacturer Marshall Lethlean Industries.

Marshall Lethlean offers aluminium fuel tankers, aluminium chemical tankers, stainless steel tankers, dry bulk carriers and bitumen trailers.
