Tippers, agitators and water carts interspersed with lowloaders and excavators were the order of the day when Mack Trucks hosted its Weapons of Mass Construction drive day for media in Sydney recently.
With 600 tonnes of river sand courtesy of Boral Transport transforming The Arena at Sydney Olympic Park into a giant sandpit, operators such as Gravel City and Camson’s Transport put on a display of precision earthmoving as they manoeuvred the Trident tipper and dog and Granite tipper around the confined course, unloading and reloading on command.
Other attractions on the day were the obstacle course, complete with MetroLiner 10x4 agitator and 6x4 water cart as the weapons of choice for competitors as they weaved their way around the twisty confines of the circuit, hitting as few barriers and witches hats as possible.
Rounding out the day was an on-road trip in a choice of lowloader, tipper or truck and dog, as Mack driver trainer Paul Munro demonstrated the advances in the latest version of the Mack MP8 engine, including advanced engine electronics which shut the engine down after a preset idle period, to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
