UD delivers first Quester models to Asia Group

UD has just delivered the first examples of the heavy-duty Quester model to Asia Group in Thailand.

The Quester is UD’s emerging-market heavy-duty prime mover and has been developed and targeted at markets across Asia and even Africa, where UD has a strong brand presence and history.

These first 15 trucks are part of a three-year maintenance contract deal between the concrete pile manufacturing business and the Japanese truck manufacturer.

The Quester uses the Volvo-sourced 11-litre GH11E for applications up to 420hp (313kW) and 2,000Nm.

An 8-litre option is also available that puts out up to 330hp (246kW) and 1,200Nm of torque.

The Quester engine range at present is available in Euro 3 and Euro 4 emissions guise.

The GH11E engine found in the Quester comes from the same family as the Euro 5 spec GH11TC that is used to power the Australian UD Quon prime mover.

Transmission options range from six and nine speed for the 8-litre version or a nine and 12-speed for the 11 litre.

“The UD Quester is the result from years of seeking a solution to the needs of our customers in Asia and growth markets – at an affordable price,” Volvo President Christophe Martin says.

“Marrying the Japanese brand’s reputation for dependability and Volvo’s global technology expertise, the Quester is designed, priced and equipped with features that cater to a multitude of different industries, from distribution to long-haul transportation, mining to construction.”

Volvo has expanded the UD manufacturing facility in Thailand by adding 20,000 square metres to the Bangkok plant, which is now capable of producing 20,000 units annually.
