The Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks department recently presented a spectacular design concept at the Daimler plant in Germany to mark the 60th birthday of the Unimog truck division.

Featuring an expressive "face" that indicates the future style of Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle design, the concept combines the past and future of Unimog.

The design concept, based on the Unimog U5000 chassis, gives plenty of hints about its technical innovations, as well as its roots, including the trademark Unimog coil spring suspension.

The colour scheme is taken from the poison dart frog, which Mercedes claims symbolises Unimog’s mobility on land and through water.

The lines of the frame have been finished with high-grade trims cut from aluminium blocks, while the four same-size wheels have a five-star alu-rim design.

Despite the lengths the design team went to in creating the "60 Years Unimog" prototype, it is not intended to ever go into production. Instead, designer Bertrand Janssen says it is meant to be a reminder of the brand’s key attributes.
