After securing an agreement with the Queensland Department of Education, Training and Arts (DETA), the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland (CVIAQ) has engaged Michael Gilbert as Project Manager to oversee the Skills Formation Strategy in Heavy Vehicle Repair.

Gilbert’s most recent experience as a senior project officer for the training identification and facilitator program, FarmBis, co-ordinated by the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, will hold him in good stead to perform the duties required of his new role.

The strategy relies significantly on his ability to engage the heavy vehicle repair industry and to build relationships with industry and, between industry, government and other stakeholders.

The main aims of the Skills Formation Strategy – Heavy Vehicle Repair are to provide the heavy vehicle repair industry with a sustainable mechanism to address future workforce management issues through effective skilling solutions and identify key skilling and workforce activities in which DETA can most effectively assist the industry’s growth and development.

Gilbert says he is looking forward to engaging with the heavy vehicle repair industry to identify workforce development issues and then facilitating strategies to address these issues.

The procurement of a Project Manager to oversee the Skills Formation Strategy – Heavy Vehicle Repair is part of the ongoing commitment CVIAQ has in addressing the present skills shortages being experienced by its members.
