The Western Australia Main Roads Department has moved to end confusion among restricted access vehicle operators over axle spacings, by releasing a new measurement guide.

The new document, which is available under the Heavy Vehicles heading at www.mainroads.wa.gov.au, lists the various axle spacings, as well as providing a diagram showing how they should be measured.

The new figures confirm the minimum spacing between the axle groups, such as a single axle to tandem axle, which requires a separation of at least 4.3 metres, while the minimum measurement for a single axle to a tri-axle must be 5.5 metres.
